An intervention in a Natural History Museum puts a live
Tamagotchi on display with other representatives of the animal kingdom. Such electronic toys were designed as empathy
devices. Marketed as a way to supposedly make children more responsible by having them take care of the digital pet and friend, the
Tamagotchi requires constant attention and care. The shape is designed to be an fun interpretation of a cracked egg shell, reinforcing the idea of a recently hatched creature that needs nursing.
Instead of human empathy, the installation revolves around a programmed arduino robot that performs the required empathy and keeps the Tamagotchi alive during the duration of the entire exhibition.
